Knowing that in our movement there are many situations why people won't, still for a while, decide to use purely free software equiped computers, and that we'll have to teach our friends about it, we have to state that

  • free software is an ethical movement the closest to our own in the computer programing field, that we feel we should support our best.
  • as a second choice, open source software is to be prefered to any other, since it will still provide a good level of accessibility, interoperability and security.
  • if (when) using proprietary software one should always keep in mind that there are always ways to make your work available in a non-proprietary format, not imposing people to use this or that softare to communicate with you. It is not serving our purpose to blindly diffuse proprietary format documents.
  • accessibility remains an issue for us, as part of addressing minorities discrimination.

As a first step to liberate ourselves and others, it can be a good habit to start using such programs that will both run on Windows and GNU/Linux. By the way, even if you still use windows, there are plenty of quality software people have made available for free. ;)

You will learn that free software is much more than just being "for free" (like in free beer). Freewares often become paying just when thay start being really good. Free software will not. Freeware may not care for open formats, free software will always do so.
